Read from the Slovak team who journeyed to Lecce to bridge cultural divides and challenge stereotypes through the transformative art of personal storytelling.

Surrounded by the vibrant atmosphere of Lecce, we discovered how storytelling can become a powerful tool for connecting people from different cultures. During the “Stories for a United EU” youth exchange, we focused on sharing personal experiences, practicing active listening, and learning how to communicate our stories in a meaningful way.

Instead of traditional lectures, we took part in interactive workshops that helped us challenge stereotypes and better understand diverse perspectives. By working in international groups, we realized how much our backgrounds shape the way we see the world—and how storytelling can help break down these barriers.

Outside the sessions, we explored Lecce’s historic streets and experienced authentic Italian culture. A special highlight was our cook, who brought not only delicious meals but also a true sense of Italian hospitality. Intercultural nights allowed us to share traditions, music, and food, bringing our group even closer together. Representing Slovakia was a proud moment, and our sweet Pikao quickly became a favorite among participants.

This project showed us that sharing stories is more than just communication. It is a way to build understanding and create meaningful connections. We left with new perspectives, strong friendships, and the motivation to use what we learned in our everyday lives and communities. ✨
