Our participants have lived through a youth exchange in which they immersed themselves in the traditions, nature, and community life of rural Hungary, read from them:
From July 31st to August 11th, we immersed ourselves in the heart of rural Hungary, staying at the picturesque Szaporcai Cifraház. Our adventurous journey, part of the Erasmus+ program, led us into a world where agriculture, rich traditions, and strong communities intertwine. These communities, actively dedicated to preserving their cultural heritage, welcomed us with open arms, allowing us to become a part of their daily lives.
During our stay, we had the unique opportunity to attend inspiring presentations focused on climate change and its impact on rural areas. We learned about how the local landscape is changing, how it affects traditional farming, and how rural communities can face the new challenges that these changes bring. These discussions made us think more deeply about the importance of a sustainable approach to life and farming, which is key to protecting the environment and preserving the rural way of life.
Our program also included a visit to a local farm, where we saw firsthand how farming works in practice and understood the importance of farming in harmony with nature. We participated in various practical workshops that introduced us to traditional crafts. We painted T-shirts with traditional rural patterns and decorated walls with special roller painting techniques. Additionally, we fed chickens, cared for young trees, and performed other activities that reconnected us with nature and showed us the importance of mutual cooperation. We also took part in a cycling trip that allowed us to explore the home region of the Videkénjo! organization, giving us a better appreciation for the local beauty.
Every day was filled with learning, laughter, and teamwork. These shared moments, full of new experiences and discoveries, showed us that rural life is not just about preserving old customs. It is also about building a sustainable and prosperous future for the next generations. This youth exchange was clear proof that combined effort and enthusiasm can strengthen communities and protect what is most important to them. We made new friends and gained valuable experiences that will continue to inspire us. The legacy of this project lies in the belief that the future of the countryside is in the hands of the young generation, who have the strength and willingness to shape it with respect for both traditions and nature.
