What happens when you mix six nationalities, freezing Poland and a deep dive into our digital footprints? Read from Kika:
When our group of six Slovaks arrived in Olsztyn, we knew the Polish winter would be a major part of the experience. The January air was crisp, and we quickly realized that staying warm would be our first collective mission. We turned layering into an art form. Navigating the building in extra layers and duvets—a look that felt less like “fighting the cold” and more like a unique fashion statement for our digital retreat.
I became the trendsetter of fighting the cold in a creative way. I was walking down the halls like a human catterpillar but I didn’t mind it. At least once in my life I could feel like a Batman. The eight days I spent in Olsztyn became one of the best in my life.
Let me introduce you to the story of our lives, the escape from reality in the form of a Youth Exchange. I happened to appear in a group of young people from six countries. People with different backgrounds, age, habits, and diets. We still managed to co-exist in one place as a homogeneous group.
Our topic was DigitalYou, with a big focus on AI – how to use it and what are the risks. We were also discussing cyberbullying, our digital identity – how easy it’s to become somebody else on the Internet. We became aware of our digital footprint, its existence and how to be safe in the online world. It’s not that easy to live without our phones, social media, or even bank accounts. Everything is digital nowadays and finding the real balance in usage is super hard.
I left this project with a special memory in my heart, because I felt indescribably happy. The time there became a different dimension, it was passing so slow, but in the best way possible. I was present, I didn’t even use my phone much. And this is a sign that a project is good. You forget about everything, you are just enjoying the presence of people around you and yourself. Thank you for a great experience! ❄️
