Hear from our participants who came together to celebrate Europe’s rich cultural diversity through the timeless traditions of weddings:

The “Weddings Without Borders” youth exchange was a journey through culture, tradition, and togetherness. What began as simple icebreakers soon turned into something much more meaningful, as young people from Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Greece, and North Macedonia came together to share one of humanity’s oldest traditions — weddings. From the very first moments, the atmosphere was warm and filled with curiosity, as everyone discovered both differences and similarities in how love and unity are celebrated across Europe.

One of the highlights came early on, when we experienced a traditional Macedonian wedding. The music, the food, and the ceremonies opened a window into a culture full of color and joy. Soon after, other countries followed — Slovakia, Spain, and Greece — each with their own ways of celebrating, each leaving a unique impression. Every day felt like stepping into another world, yet all of them carried the same universal message of unity and respect.

In between the weddings, we explored the local village, walking its streets and connecting with its culture. Intercultural evenings added even more flavor, as every country proudly presented its traditions in fun and creative ways. Laughter, dancing, and storytelling filled the nights, and friendships slowly began to take root.

The journey ended with something truly special: a Portuguese wedding inside a church. But the final activity brought everything together — one big international wedding, where all the traditions blended into a single celebration. In that moment, the message of the project was clear: just as a wedding unites two partners, diversity has the power to bring people together to create something beautiful. 💒
