Kika, a participant from our recent project, shares her thoughts on what leadership means and how can we lead by example, in general and also in taking care of the nature:

Being a good leader is really hard. And to be aware of what should a good leader do, that’s a real challenge. That’s why we took part in a youth exchange, where we learned more about this topic.

Participants from seven countries met on a rainy day of 23rd of May in the easternmost part of Slovakia. Surrounded by beautiful forests and hills, with many possibilities of recreation. The location was the key in this particular Erasmus+ project, since the topic was „Leadership EcoQuest“.

The reason why we attended this sort of project was for everybody different. For me, for example, it was a challenge for pushing my own limits – physical and mental ones as well. Because the peak of our seven day long co-habitation was a hike, we needed to prepare for it properly. The first days of the project were very practical – we visited two places of local enterpreneurship – a beekeeper and mini zoo. It was really interesting, the honey was very tasty and animals were cute.

We spent a night in the forest. In a place we built our tents, made fire and food for all of us. The crucial point was co-operation; because nobody could do anything on their own. We had to come up with common rules and follow them. Because of almost 30 people, it’s not always easy to find a common ground. After surving a freezing night, our reward was getting to the highlight of our hike – the Snina Stone.

After the hike, we were a little tired but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the company of people from different countries. We found out so much about the others and their backgrounds. Even the informal part of a project is important, and what more – it’s fun! 🙂
